Retro-inspired space shooter with a twist

Retaliate is a premium shoot ‘em up inspired by the classic arcade game Space Invaders. Developed and published by indie developer Romans I XVI Gaming, this action title adds a twist to the classic gameplay where your spacecraft absorbs your enemies’ weapons to strike back instead of firing unlimited ammunition.

Stockpile and strike back

In Retaliate, you start off with barely any ammo in your arsenal, but you can use your spacecraft’s shield to protect yourself from enemies’ attacks and absorb their weapons to counterattack. The game retains the classic gameplay, though, this time, you have to manage your limited resources to survive.

Like most titles in the golden age of arcade games, it’s a vertical scroller with a top-down perspective, promising a complete classic experience. It comes with story and arcade modes to cater to various playstyles and allows spacecraft customization. Mastering the mechanics, however, can be tricky, even for veterans.

Innovative and intense

For fans of old-school shmups like Space Invaders or Galaga, Retaliate offers a fresh take on the beloved genre, blending the familiar gameplay with resource management elements. In this retro-inspired title, you have to collect weapons and ammunition before you can attack, with enemies swelling as you progress.
